This Spiritual Discipline Gives You Strength to Lead the Broken

The first step of the Hunters strategy is to strengthen yourself in the Lord. What do we mean by strengthening ourselves in the Lord? Unless we are strengthened for our engagement with the dropout, we will end up spiritually exhausted and cease our pursuit of restoration for them.

This step consists of three distinct facets of your spiritual walk:

1. Be filled with the Spirit

2. Consistent prayer

3. Praise

Last week we looked at the second facet. This week we will examine the third one: praise.

Praise and worship must become an integral part of our daily life. The Scriptures are so full of references to this subject that it should be understood. Yet many believers have little thought of praising God except in church. We must learn to continually praise God, especially in adversity.

Praise brings joy, and the joy of the Lord is our strength (Neh. 8:10).

Without strength, we cannot resist the devil.

If we don't resist the devil, he will not flee (James 4:7).

If the devil doesn't flee, we cannot overcome in the face of trials.

If we don't overcome, we are not conformed to the image of Christ. To be conformed to the image of Christ and have the kingdom of God established in our hearts—righteousness, peace, and joy (Rom 14:17)—we must praise Him continually.

Action Tip

Practice praising Him daily for everything that comes your way. For more depth on this, read Hunters of the Harvest, chapter 8.

Louis Posthauer is the executive director of Hunters of the Harvest Ministry. He has been actively involved in the local church for 37-plus years and currently serves as a lay leader and teacher at Living Word Church of the Nazarene in Houston. For more information:
