There's No Such Thing as Too Busy

Busy isn't so bad. Just keep your priorities in line.

"I know you are busy, but would you like to lead a team?"

At some point, every leader has been asked a similar question. I've heard odd responses to the question, but none has been as odd as "I'm just too busy."

God calls busy people to lead. I can't think of a leader called by God from a lazy recliner.

I can walk into a building and identify leaders by observing people walking in the hall. Leaders and future leaders are in a hurry to get somewhere. They aren't interrupted by idle chitchat—they are on a mission to get somewhere and do something. In addition, busy walkers have followers at their heels.

People who follow aren't likely to wait on a sitter.

God selects leaders from the field. Nehemiah was busy serving the king.

Moses had a flock at Horeb.

Gideon worked his wheat.

David was a dependable shepherd.

Elisha had his hand at the plow.

Peter and Andrew were busy fishermen. So were James and Peter.

God needs and calls people who know what needs to be done and who are willing to run to the plow.

Leaders relish a busy life of significant work.

"For we were not idle among you, neither did we eat anyone's bread without paying for it, but we worked tirelessly and toiled night and day that we might not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we did not have that right, but to make ourselves an example for you to follow" (2 Thess. 3:7-9).
