Myopic Thinking Leads to Regression

Do you often encounter a room full of nodding bobbleheads? (Flickr)

When leaders develop nearsighted thinking, the outcome can be regressive.

Leaders are known for strength and resolve. Often, our greatest strengths show up as a significant weakness. When the strength of resolve leads to an unwillingness to receive counterpoint, tunnel vision can develop.

It's dangerous when a leader knows too much to hear input from others. While it is wise to be careful about what we hear from others, we must have enough confidence in our hearing of God to assemble an inner circle to speak into our firm resolve. Competent leaders have a good composition of checks and balances in their think tank.

I haven't met a leader who could admit that "yes people" were at every doorpost in the organization. It difficult to recognize when we are being "yessed to death." Find trusted advisers whose yays and nays are original.

I'd rather have one naysayer at the table than a room full of nodding bobble-heads. Groupthink is an enemy of leadership.

I need the fullness of the Holy Spirit in every decision.
