QUOTE: "We are seeing the very serious weakening of American faith, even among people who profess to be believers. Yet an awful lot of people haven't really faced up to the true challenge and still think they can turn it around with things like political action. … Beware the escalation of extremism. Christian sayings such as, 'Love your enemies'—they're forgotten. People are attacking their enemies, but they're certainly not on the side of Jesus in this." —Christian scholar and author Os Guinness, speaking at a conference at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary on "renewing the evangelical mission." With more than 500 leaders from multiple denominations in attendance, the meetings highlighted the current shift in how the church views itself and attempts to further itself in the coming years. Said fellow speaker John Jefferson Davis, a theologian at Gordon-Conwell: "Unless we can experience God in a way that is as real and as appealing as what we see on a 60-inch, high-definition plasma home theater screen, we are in trouble." This quote reveals to me that Christians are looking for God to stimulate them through the senses of the flesh as the world does. God deals with our heart and our spirit...always has and always will. He is Spirit and we must worship (experience Him) in spirit and in truth (of His Word). There is only one door to the Father and His name is Jesus!!
No theater screen of any kind or any where will ever broadcast anything that could replace, duplicate or out do a God experience. To experience God is to "know Him", and to "know Him" is to obey Him.
When He returns, will He find faith?
Seeing America return from it's spiritual lostness means that I have to follow and live out II Cronicles 7:14 in communion with God, that is the way back for us. It's time to come together and do this now!
I'm not sure what trouble this person speaks of. Is what we see on a 60 inch tv screen "real"???? Seems like that is virtual reality...not reality.
And yes, our culture is in serious trouble if this is what "ministry" will mean in the future: offering HD, virtual experiences, on big screens.
