Oklahoma Pastor's Murder a Reminder of Balance

QUOTE: "I recall Jesus’ instructions to His disciples as He prepared them for ministry in Matthew 10:16: 'Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.' Our difficulty is in the balance of being innocent and wise at the same time. … If we are to be the redemptive community Christ has created us to be, our doors must remain open and at the same time remain a safe space for people to experience the presence and power of a holy and loving God." —Clark Frailey, lead pastor of Coffee Creek Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, where ministers in the area met with law enforcement officials last week following the gruesome murder of Pentecostal pastor Carol Daniels in nearby Anadarko. Police discovered Daniels' mutilated body on Aug. 23 in a "crucifix position" with multiple stab wounds and, with the killer still at large, reminded pastors to be vigilant. Why is it even in Christian people the victim is always the one to get questioned first? This was evil works of darkness regardless of why it took place. We can meet every precaution and still fall prey to evil.It is Satain that is to blame for every evil work and him only.

When I was pastoring many years ago I was in one of the worst areas in the south suburbs of Chicago. I was 29 and knew how to take care of myself very well, but I didn't feel safe enough to just leave the doors unlocked when I was by myself. We believe God, but we also lock the doors and take the key out of ignition. In other words, there are times that we must walk by sight and not by faith.

Based on the few details we have of the murder, it seems it was intentional and not just some incidental "bad guy" comes across a pastor. Let's not judge the guy for not being wise just because he was murdered. If he was truly serving our Lord and listening to His voice, then perhaps his death was meant to bring greater glory to God.

M C is right, this was evil and wicked and this is simply blatant spiritual warfare. I don't think we should second guess Pastor's Daniels last minute choices, he deserves better than that.

This is not horrible and disgusting-it is evil and wicked. Make no mistake about it. I believe as ministers of the gospel, we have not taught the masses in the Body of Christ about the works of the devil. Most leaders are still apprehensive about teaching on spiritual warfare or even talking about the enemy. May God have mercy on us all.

Pastor Daniels' horrific murder is not just a reminder of "balance" and caution, it's also a wake-up call that the enemy of our souls is not fearless -- neither should we be. Interceed for the safety of those in leadership, their families and the Body of Christ at large. Also continue to move in Spirit-boldness to advance God's Kingdom. The back of the Book says we win!
